What to Do When You Fall Off the Wagon

At some point or another, we have all fallen off the wagon and reverted to consuming more alcohol; eating more than our body needs; and going back to old, destructive habits, etc.

Just remember, YOU DO NOT HAVE TO STAY THERE!

Getting back on track with your health goals is a matter of determination and staying true to the commitments you make to yourself.

If you need help getting back on the health wagon, here are four tips to get you started:

  1. Check your behavior. This means that you ask yourself the tough questions...why are you behaving this way? What do you need to do to change the destructive behaviors? Are you taking full responsibility for your actions? Why do you want to change?

  2. Stop beating yourself up! Remember, NO ONE IS PERFECT and you don’t have to be either. Perfectionism leads to deception. Set realistic and attainable goals. And most importantly, find a happy medium between being tough on yourself and being too much of a softie.

  3. Make self-correction an immediate action. As soon as you realize that you are not where you want to be, DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT! Correct your diet, return to your favorite exercise routine, and make sure to include retraining your mindset. Don’t wait until your body is screaming for change to act!

  4. Create an environment that will set you up for success. That means get your diet dialed in; be prepared with healthy foods to keep on hand when feeling tempted to “cheat” such as plenty of healthy proteins, fats, and good carbs; and remove triggers such as junk food, negative people and situations, and other stressors.

There will always be parties, holidays, or events going on that tempt you to forget about your health goals for that day.

However, you ARE ALWAYS IN CONTROL! Stay true to you and becoming the best version of yourself!
