10 Best Summer Health Tips

Early sunrises, swimsuits, suntan lotions, water parks, beach days, sailing and surfing are great indicators that summer has arrived. Enjoy your summer with my favorite summer health tips.

  1. Drink water- Drink lots of water during the summer months it helps maintain your weight and fuel your body for daily activities.

  2. Keep It fresh - Eat fresh summer fruits and vegetables that are in season like watermelon, peaches, and cherries.

  3. Stay cool – Go swimming in the lake or beautiful oceans, visit air conditioned attractions, lounge in the pool. Wear loose cotton clothes and stick to white and light colors.

  4. Keep it shady – enjoy the shade and limit your time in the direct sun between 10 am and 4 pm, but get your vitamin D early in the morning before 10 am.

  5. Disconnect - Take a break from social media and connect with friends and family whose company you enjoy. Make new friends in the community and try a summer class at the local college, community center, or church.

  6. Salad time - Add a salad full of fresh vegetables to your lunch and dinner plate. Try adding toppings for added flavor. Some of my favorites include chia seeds, coconut flakes, olives, pumpkin seeds, and sauerkraut.

  7. Limit the carbs – Watch the carb intake in the evenings. Some of the most common carbs are breads, rice, potatoes, pasta, cereals, chips, crackers, and pastries. These can interfere with a good night sleep and the weight will eventually creep up on you.

  8. Eat Breakfast - Starting off the day with a good breakfast is vital. Try swapping in a smoothie in the morning instead of eating cereal, pastries, or coffee. My favorite smoothie includes coconut milk, plant based protein powder, 1 cup of strawberries, ½ avocado, chia and flax seeds. It’s filling and slimming.

  9. Exercise early – The sun rises earlier and so does the heat. Our bodies were designed to move throughout the day especially outdoors; enjoy a morning workout before the heat sets in.

  10. Guard your sleep - Getting enough sleep is just as important as diet and exercise. Proper sleep can keep your mind sharp and body slimmer. Start winding down by 9:30 p.m. and lights off by 10 p.m.
