The Health Benefits of Grounding
Updated: Jun 22, 2019
Do you remember as a kid wanting to kick your shoes off so that you could run barefoot in the grass, sand, or forest? I remember our last two trips to the Amazon jungle and how we walked around barefoot and how unnatural it felt to put our shoes back on after returning to the United States.
There are actually many health benefits to grounding AKA earthing, that is encouraging the health conscious community and catching on quickly with mainstream America.
What Is Grounding and How Does It work?
Grounding is directly connecting with the earth with the soles of your bare feet. One of my favorite places to ground is the jungle (not so easy in the U.S), sand at the beach, and grass that hasn’t been fertilized with toxic chemicals. Grounding has some health benefits that neutralize the positive ions that can contribute to chaos in the body.
Think about how amazing and invigorating you feel after spending the day at the beach. And the good night's sleep that night too! I love going to the beach and watching the surfers after spending hours in the water. They look so peaceful. Have you ever seen a pissed off surfer after hours in the water? Probably not.
Think of your body as an electrical component that has energy that runs through it. A good example is your brain and heart. They are electrical right? Your body has an electrical current that runs through it. This current is important for your circadian rhythm or biological clock and how you sleep at night. A good night’s sleep is vital in recovering from illness, rejuvenation, anti aging, and even fat burning.
So if you think of your body being electrical think of everything that produces positive ions that are interfering the body’s electrical circuitry. Cell phone, televisions, computers, microwaves, cell phone towers, and the new smart meters in your home. The earth has negative ions which will help remove the excess positive ions. As a result you will discover a sense of well being.
Other Means of Grounding
Sometimes grounding can be a challenge in the winter if you live in the northern states where it gets cold and snows for 4-5 months out of the year or if you live in the desert and experience the blistering triple digit weather in the summer. Therefore, another option is purchasing a grounding mat that you can put in your bed and ground for 7-9 hours while you sleep or a earthing pillow You can find one on Amazon. Another option is having one at your desk at work while working on your computer. You can place it underneath the keyboard. Ot there is also the option of having one on the floor and with your feet on it. I have one in my office that allows me to have my feet on the grounding mat. You can plug in this grounding/earthing mat into a grounded 3 prong outlet and enjoy the benefits.
