In Times Of Darkness

It ‘s been a few days since the loss of a global icon, Kobe Bryant, his 13 year old daughter Gigi, 2 young girls (Alyssa, Payton), 3 women (Keri, Sarah Christina), 2 males (John, Ara) that have many questioning “why?”

In the past few days I have listened to many interviews and listened again to one of my favorite podcast interview on the School of Greatness with Lewis Howe, and it brings tears to my eyes, heaviness in my heart and a tug to live with a MAMBA mentality (seek to be the best version of yourself).

You can’t scroll through social media or television with out seeing pictures of Kobe and his 13-year-old daughter, that tugs at your heart. This may sound odd but I find myself crying at times and it’s so hard to do work without images popping up of the tragic loss. As a momma and wife, I can’t even imagine what the families are going through. I pause and ask God to comfort the friends and families of those that perished in this horrific accident.

How do you handle life in times of darkness? During my morning walk, my God time, I asked “Why? Why God? Why did this happen?” Expecting the heavens to open up and God himself to answer me, I continued to walk and tears began to flow, just like now as I am writing this. I have had to pause multiple times to gain my composure and possibly share something enlightening that would make sense of all this and create an epic effect on those who read it.

In reality, I just don’t know. At this very moment all I know is that time on earth is not forever and we don’t know when our time is up. I know that love is powerful, say I love you more, show kindness, be forgiving, smile more, be present with your family, friends and even strangers because that may be the very last moment you have contact with them. I know it may sound cliché but they are truths that we should be living, at least what I should be living.

When there is a loss, sometimes holding on to the beautiful moments and cherishing them as long as possible and to remember that nothing lasts forever not even pain can be comforting. I think it really takes time to heal a loss of a loved one. Loving and holding on dearly to those that we do have in our life will help us get through it. Sometimes just being around other people and feeling their love can provide moments of comfort.

Many times we have to allow the feelings because we are human and everyone’s timing is different. Gather support and reach out for help. That may include friends, family; minister, a therapist that can help you through the process. Sometimes you need someone to listen or help you with your physical needs. Allow the process to unfold which may include periods of denial, anger, depression, acceptance and bargaining with your higher power to bring them back. Moving forward and embracing life without your loved one will occur when you begin to live life without them by your side and slowly create a new way of life. It’s not easy but it is often said that beauty comes from ashes.

So today I will do better than yesterday and be of service to those around me and may God give me opportunities to be a blessing to someone. I will write in my gratitude journal tonight and be more mindful of what I am truly grateful for in my life. I wish the same for you……………………………
